On September 19th, Spring Lake Elementary 5th Grade students converged on Payson Memorial Park for a memorable day of teamwork and physical activity at their Battle Boot Camp. Thanks to the help of many willing parents, the students enjoyed several rotation activities in their day of Boot Camp training. They ran an obstacle course and had "marching practice" strapped in groups to 2x4s. Reconnaissance was practiced with a scavenger hunt about the park. Teamwork was practiced with games of Steal the Flag and a Laser Web Escape activity, as well as an obstacle course. The students enjoyed swinging across a “piranha infested river” to get their team safely onto a platform. That took some teamwork!
The weather was perfect, and Memorial Park was a great space for Boot Camp. The students’ favorite activity of the day was certainly the Flour Bomb Battle where they played in massive teams lobbing flour loaded nylon stockings at the opposing players. Morale waned a bit as the flour dusted troops marched back to the school, but they were able to keep trudging on with the memories of a great day.

Students in Mrs. Braden's class red a book about Welles Crowther, "The Man in the Red Bandanna." Welles was a hero who saved many individuals on September 11th. Students were given their own red bandannas as a reminder to serve others.

Fifth grade students visited the 9/11 Project today. This event provided students with a meaningful opportunity to learn, reflect, and honor the heroes and history of September 11, 2001. Students were able to listen to three native New Yorkers who were working in Manhattan the day the Towers fell. They also interacted with current members of the military, fire, and police professions.

We have an incredibly rare opportunity to participate in the 9/11 Remembrance Event being held at the Spanish Fork Fairgrounds. This is not just for students, it is for all our families. Please take some time today , Thursday, September 11th through Saturday, September 13th from 9 am to 9 pm to attend this wonderful event. We are so grateful to the Major Brent Taylor Foundation for putting on this event and helping us to "REMEMBER".

Mrs. Lindsey’s class earned their first marble party. For their party, they ate popsicles. Great work kindergarteners!

Many second grade students dressed as characters from their favorite fairytales or tall tales as a culminating unit activity. Students shared that fairytales and tall tales include exaggerations and magical things. They also have a moral. Most students agreed that Pecos Bill was their favorite tall tale that they read.

Full Day Kindergarten earned their first marble party! They celebrated with popsicles!

We enjoyed The Safe Routes Utah Beat the Street assembly yesterday. Students were taught about walking and biking to school safely. This presentation taught students about the importance of traffic signs, signal lights, crossing the road, and helmet use.

Third grade enjoyed watermelon after writing about “A Slice of Summer.”

Kindergarten students in Mrs. McFarland's class FOUND THE GINGERBREAD MAN!!!
